April is Poetry Month!

Poetry in the Park connects people to nature by engaging our senses with the environment around us.

Join us in welcoming local poet, Kristy Gledhill, MFA, as presenter of this wonderful workshop:

Whether what catches your poet’s eye is an island in the sunset or a weed forcing its way through a fence, writing (and reading) nature poetry provides a way to connect with the world and perhaps make some sense of it… and of ourselves.

We’ll spend time with a few nature poems, generate some seedling poems for ourselves and talk about where good nature poetry begins and ends. You’ll get a big juicy packet of prompts, poems and links to keep for your reference and inspiration. Bring paper and something to write with.

The Nature Poetry Walk and Reading at Adriana Hess Wetland park in May of 2024 will provide a chance for you to share the poems your seedlings have become!

Recommended for folks age teen up to adult.

The University Place library is partnering with the Tahoma Bird Alliance's Nature Book Group to present Poetry Nature Walks each month. In April, we will meet at Adriana Hess Wetland Park.

The Pierce County Library System is partnering with the Tahoma Bird Alliance's Nature Book Group to bring Poetry Nature Walks to our community.

Each month we will meet at a different park to walk, read poems, and enjoy nature. April is poetry month and we will meet near the parking lot (2917 Morrison Rd W, University Place, WA 98466) at 2 PM to walk a short trail. We will read the poetry posted in the park. If you would like, please feel free to bring a nature-related poem (12 lines or less) to read. This is not required.

The path is mostly gravel and not completely level; however, this walk is moderately easy and will not require a lot of stamina.  There is parking, but no restrooms on site; there are restrooms at the University Place Library nearby. Please note, this outdoor program may be canceled due to inclement weather.
